In the 1970s and 1980s, the U.S. Navy adopted the trend of Low-Visibility schemes, replacing the once bright and colorful markings—such as high-contrast squadron insignias and tail stripes—with shades of gray, light gray, or dark gray. The goal was to reduce the chance of being spotted visually or detected by radar in combat. The A-7E Corsair II followed this shift, wearing low-visibility camouflage that gave it a subdued yet distinctly cold and professional presence.
